Key Notes
- Development is ending, with app-store delisting on November 21 and a separate server shutdown on May 1, 2027.
- In-app purchases have stopped, while remaining currency, current modes and free Super Pass content stay usable during the final service period.
- Players must seek refunds through Apple or Google, and the game will no longer load after its servers close.
Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble is ending development, with its mobile servers scheduled to close on May 1, 2027. The free-to-play shooter will leave the App Store and Google Play on November 21, giving existing players a separate deadline to download it before the service winds down.
The game’s shutdown notice dates its final planned update for November 6. In-app purchases have already been removed, while current modes and matchmaking are due to remain available until the servers close. The announcement does not explain why development is stopping.
Two Deadlines for Existing Players
Delisting comes first. The published FAQ says downloads and reinstalls will remain available only until November 21. Anyone planning to keep playing should therefore avoid assuming they can delete the app and retrieve it months later.
The May shutdown is more final: the game will no longer load, account data will be erased and progress or purchased items cannot transfer to another title. There is no announced offline edition to preserve the arena battles.
That differs from the approach to Pokémon Unite’s closure, which we recently covered. Its final update includes a downloadable Library for retaining a limited collection of records and content, though not online matches. Ranger Rumble’s notice offers no equivalent preservation feature.
What Happens to Purchases and Rewards
Remaining earned or purchased currency can be used during the service period. Qwark Pass seasons will continue, and the Super Pass is now free, opening its seasonal content to players without another purchase.
Refund requests go through the relevant app store rather than a newly announced blanket compensation program. Apple’s refund guidance directs customers to its Report a Problem service, where they select a purchase and explain the request. Eligibility varies by region, and approval can take time.
Android players can use Google’s refund process for Google Play purchases. The shutdown itself should not be read as confirmation that every historical transaction will be reimbursed.
A Mobile Arena Spin-Off, Not a Console Sequel
Developed by Oh BiBi with PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games, Ranger Rumble adapted the series into short competitive battles. A July gameplay overview described a combat simulation created by Captain Qwark, with original characters and familiar weapon-driven action.
Its planned launch offering included 12 heroes and six modes, spanning team battles, enemy waves, a battle royale-inspired format and a football-style contest. That structure distinguished the project from the single-player platforming adventures associated with the main series.
The July announcement also promoted worldwide pre-registration after regional testing in Canada, the Nordics, France and Asia. At that stage, Oh BiBi was presenting the game as a new route into the franchise for mobile players.
Today’s decision concerns Ranger Rumble specifically. The official notice says it does not affect other Ratchet & Clank games or PlayStation services. For its remaining community, the immediate tasks are checking the installation before delisting and resolving any purchase questions through the store that processed them.
