Key Notes
- Secret Caves brings creature battles and a new Treasure Catalog to Pikmin Bloom this winter, with no exact release date announced.
- Players can attack or recall their squads during encounters, while hit Pikmin withdraw to recover rather than disappearing.
- Pikmin 4’s Switch 2 campaign offers a special Cave Map at 600 Dandori Points and costume rewards through linked Nintendo Accounts.
Pikmin Bloom is adding Secret Caves this winter, bringing battles and treasure collecting to the mobile walking game. The update connects to rewards in Pikmin 4’s Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, although it has no exact launch date.
The official announcement introduces Cave Maps, which let players send a large squad of Pikmin below ground. Maps can arrive with postcards, giving the game’s existing collecting routines a route into a more active kind of expedition.
Cave Battles Add Commands and Recovering Squads
Exploration happens automatically until the Pikmin encounter a creature. Players can order an attack or whistle the squad back before an enemy strike. The encounter requires commands rather than simply waiting for an expedition timer.
Hit Pikmin retreat and need time to recover, but do not die or disappear. For players building long-term collections, a failed exchange can interrupt an expedition without permanently removing its participants.
Winning battles earns treasure for a new Treasure Catalog, adding a collection goal alongside walking and flower planting. The announcement describes the basic loop, but “this winter” remains its release window; the mode is not yet available.
Pikmin 4 Unlocks Maps and Costume Rewards
The Switch 2 connection has its own requirements. Nintendo’s campaign page says players can earn rewards in Bloom through Pikmin 4’s Dandori Academy challenges and exams. Reaching 600 Dandori Points unlocks a special Cave Map, which becomes usable after Secret Caves launches.
At 1,400 points, players can choose one of five costume variants. The choice is permanent, so it is worth checking the available styles before claiming it. Completing the second day’s results screen in the game also qualifies players for a costume and postcard reward, with a route to those rewards through the demo as well.
The accounts need to match: the Nintendo Account used in Pikmin 4 must also be linked to Pikmin Bloom. After meeting a requirement, players send their gameplay data from the console game and then open the mobile app to receive the reward. Playing an Academy course in practice mode does not count as completing the qualifying exam.
The Demo Arrives Before the Full Switch 2 Release
Nintendo’s Direct presentation sets November 2 for the free Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition demo and November 12 for the full release. The demo includes Sun-Speckled Terrace and two Dandori stages, creating an earlier opportunity to try the updated game before the paid edition arrives.
The Academy lets players practice freely, while its exams run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with one attempt. Nintendo also demonstrated microphone-based commands for Oatchi, the rescue dog. These are console-game features; the Secret Caves combat system belongs to the separate mobile app.
For Bloom players, the practical order is straightforward: prepare the linked account, check which console or demo reward requirements apply, and wait for the caves’ own release announcement. Neither the Switch 2 game’s November launch nor the campaign’s special map reward establishes an exact date for the winter mobile update.
