Krafton has announced that a live-action PUBG series is in development at Netflix, with Donald Glover attached to write, direct, executive produce and star. Stephen Glover will also write and executive produce, bringing the brothers together on an adaptation of the battle royale franchise.
The publisher’s October 30 announcement names the creative team but gives no release date, production schedule or story outline. For players, it confirms a television project rather than a new PUBG game, and development does not mean a season is ready to enter the Netflix catalog.
Donald Glover Takes Four Roles
Glover’s involvement reaches beyond appearing on screen: he is also attached to the writing, direction and executive production. Krafton identifies the Atlanta and Community performer as a two-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner.
The executive producers also include Michael Schaefer for Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H. Krafton describes LV3H as its entertainment business and says it is involved in developing and producing the series.
The announcement does not identify Glover’s character or name additional cast members. It also does not say which game locations, factions or elements of the franchise’s lore will form the story. Those remain creative questions rather than details that can be inferred from his attachment.
A Familiar Survival Format With an Unannounced Story
PUBG’s official game overview describes its basic structure as a battle royale for up to 100 players. Participants choose where to land, collect weapons and equipment, and try to survive as the safe area contracts.
Vehicles help players move across the map, while supply drops can draw opponents toward valuable equipment. Solo, duo and squad play create different kinds of encounters. Those are recognizable parts of the game’s identity, but Krafton has not said which of them will appear in the show.
A television adaptation will need to turn that repeatable survival structure into characters and events viewers can follow. The cast attachment provides a clearer indication of who will shape that approach than of what the resulting story will be. A location, tone or plot should not be treated as confirmed until the production actually announces it.
The original game remains available separately. Its Steam page lists PUBG: Battlegrounds as free to play with optional purchases. The television announcement changes neither that access model nor the distinction between playing the game and watching a Netflix adaptation.
Krafton Extends a Franchise That Is Still Growing
The move comes alongside continued investment in the games themselves. In its July earnings release, Krafton reported that revenue across the PUBG franchise rose 25% year over year in the first half of 2026. That is a franchise revenue measure, not television income or a count of new players.
The same release highlighted growth in PUBG Mobile and Battlegrounds Mobile India, alongside a wider push into collaborations and player-created experiences. The screen project adds another route for the brand to reach an audience, although Krafton has not supplied a financial forecast for it.
We reported on Netflix’s unsuccessful proposal for a broad package of Xbox film and television rights. PUBG is a separately announced project involving a named franchise owner and creative team; it should not be confused with a blanket agreement covering a publisher’s entire catalog.
The next useful milestones will be concrete production information, further casting and a release window. For now, the confirmed development is that Krafton’s battle royale is being developed for Netflix with the Glovers leading its writing and Donald Glover taking the starring role.
