Key Notes

  • Unity earned $122 million in GAAP net income during the third quarter, reversing a $127 million loss a year earlier and ending its post-IPO run of quarterly losses.
  • Revenue increased 32% to $622 million, with Grow Solutions contributing $457 million and Create Solutions adding $165 million.
  • Vector revenue grew 126% year over year, but Unity did not disclose its standalone dollar revenue and remained loss-making across the first nine months.

Unity has recorded its first profitable quarter under GAAP accounting since going public in 2020. The game-engine and advertising company reported $122 million in net income for July through September 2026, reversing a $127 million loss in the same period a year earlier.

Revenue reached $622 million, up 32% year over year, according to the company’s earnings release. Its advertising business supplied most of that revenue, while subscriptions helped the engine side grow more modestly.

A Profit Milestone After Six Years on the Market

The result marks a change in Unity’s bottom line, rather than simply an improvement in an adjusted earnings measure. GAAP is the standard US accounting framework; the company reported a 20% net income margin for the quarter.

Its adjusted EBITDA was higher, at $257 million, compared with $109 million a year before. That measure excludes items including stock-based compensation and amortization, so it should not be treated as interchangeable with the $122 million net profit.

Figures are rounded to the nearest million dollars. Segment growth rates follow Unity’s rounded reporting; free cash flow growth is calculated from its published amounts.

Cash generation also improved. Free cash flow rose from $151 million to $220 million, while operating activities generated $224 million. Unity ended September with about $2.65 billion in cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash.

The quarterly milestone does not yet make the whole year profitable. Unity’s consolidated statements show a net loss of approximately $248 million for the first nine months of 2026, despite the third-quarter recovery.

Vector Drives Advertising Growth

Grow Solutions generated $457 million in revenue, up 44% from a year earlier. Unity attributed the increase to its advertising network, driven by the AI-powered Vector platform, partly offset by declines in the ironSource advertising network.

CEO Matthew Bromberg said Vector revenue grew 126% year over year and 40% from the preceding quarter. Unity did not disclose Vector’s standalone revenue in dollars, so that growth rate cannot be applied to the entire Grow Solutions segment.

Create Solutions, which includes the game engine, brought in $165 million, up 8%. Higher subscription revenue supported the increase, while lower cloud and hosting revenue partly offset it following Unity’s earlier portfolio reset.

Bromberg described the two sides as reinforcing each other: attracting more developers leads to more games, which creates more demand for advertising to reach players. The figures show how important monetization has become alongside Unity’s development tools.

We reported on one recent extension of that model: Unity’s partnership with PvX to help eligible mobile studios finance user acquisition without selling an equity stake. Access depends on underwriting, rather than being an automatic benefit for every Unity developer.

Unity Forecasts Further Strategic Revenue Growth

For the fourth quarter, Unity projected strategic revenue of $683 million to $691 million, plus about $5 million from non-strategic businesses. Its strategic category covers the products it is prioritizing, making that forecast different from a guidance range for total revenue alone.

The company expects strategic Grow revenue of $515 million to $520 million and strategic Create revenue of $168 million to $171 million. These are management forecasts, not completed sales.

Update, November 6: Following the earnings release, we covered Reuters’ report that Silver Lake and Saudi Arabia’s PIF had discussed a Unity acquisition at roughly $25 billion. No deal has been agreed; the reported talks are separate from these company-confirmed financial results.
