Key Notes

  • GOG’s first showcase premieres November 5 at 18:00 UTC, marking the storefront’s 18th anniversary.
  • The company promises new games and features, with subtitles available in English, German, French and Polish.
  • The event arrives alongside GOG’s existing work maintaining selected classic games and providing offline backup installers.

GOG will hold its first showcase on November 5, promising new games, storefront features and updates on its next phase as it marks its 18th anniversary. The official broadcast is scheduled for 18:00 UTC, or 19:00 in Warsaw, on the company’s YouTube channel.

The announcement gives PC players a dedicated event for a store known for DRM-free releases and work on older games. GOG has teased the scope of the presentation while keeping its individual game announcements under wraps.

When and Where to Watch

The premiere begins at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern and 6 p.m. GMT on Thursday. GOG says subtitles will be available in English, German, French and Polish. Viewers can use YouTube’s notification option on the scheduled video to receive a reminder.

GOG’s announcement promises games and features in the same presentation. The current listing gives no running time or named lineup.

Preservation Means More Than an Offline Download

GOG’s existing Preservation Program concentrates on keeping selected classics playable on modern hardware. Games included in it receive compatibility work and technical support, with the company taking responsibility for maintaining that version even when its original developer has moved on.

That commitment addresses a problem familiar to anyone revisiting an old PC game. Owning the files can preserve access, but changes in operating systems, input devices or display standards can still make software difficult to run. Compatibility fixes and maintenance are part of what the program supplies.

GOG also offers offline backup installers alongside its Galaxy client. Its developer documentation explains how those packages are generated from published builds. Players can keep local copies of the installers, giving them a way to install their purchases independently of the launcher.

New Releases Sit Alongside the Classics

The store also sells contemporary releases. We recently covered Thief: The Dark Project Remastered, which includes GOG among its PC storefronts for December 3. Nightdive’s remaster combines the original stealth game with new content, including The Tarnished Mirror campaign.

That release illustrates one route for bringing an older game to current PCs. GOG’s own preservation work provides another, maintaining selected versions through compatibility updates.
