Key Notes
- The White House used the flying-cars-before-GTA-6 joke after Tesla’s Roadster demonstration, pairing it with a stylized Donald Trump illustration.
- Tesla describes its airborne Rocket version as invite-only and not approved for public road use, distinguishing the demonstration from everyday availability.
- Rockstar still lists November 19 for GTA VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC launch date on its official site.
The White House has joined the long-running Grand Theft Auto VI waiting joke, posting “We really got flying cars before GTA 6” after Tesla’s Roadster demonstration. Rockstar’s game is still scheduled for November 19, leaving just over a month between the presidential account’s punchline and the console release.
The October 16 X post pairs the message with a stylized illustration of Donald Trump, a hovering car and a presidential helicopter against a palm-lined sunset. Its “Make America Great Again” lettering borrows the stacked visual style associated with Grand Theft Auto.

Tesla’s Roadster Meets the GTA 6 Meme
The automotive backdrop is Tesla’s October 15 Roadster presentation. The Associated Press reported that the demonstration used cold-gas thrusters and a suction system to send the vehicle into the air briefly and turn it during the maneuver.
Tesla’s own Roadster page describes several versions with different capabilities. Its Rocket version is invite-only, has one seat and uses thrusters around the vehicle’s perimeter to provide upward, forward and rotational movement.
The company also states that Rocket is not approved for public road use. That qualification matters to the joke: a demonstration of a vehicle leaving the ground is different from ordinary drivers being able to buy and use a flying car on public roads.
Tesla separately lists a two-seat Performance version by reservation and a limited-release Thrust version. The latter uses rear-mounted thrusters for acceleration. The capabilities described for Rocket should therefore not be read as features included in every Roadster configuration.
GTA VI Still Targets November 19
For players, the relevant date remains unchanged. Rockstar’s official site lists November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not list a PC launch date.
The White House post follows Rockstar’s October 15 launch trailer, which we covered alongside the confirmed platforms and the latest look at Jason and Lucia’s story. The new video is part of Rockstar’s release campaign, while the White House image is a separate social-media illustration.
GTA VI returns to Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida. Rockstar’s synopsis follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos after a seemingly straightforward score goes wrong and pulls them into a criminal conspiracy across the state.
The Long Wait Behind the Punchline
The joke uses GTA VI’s lengthy wait as a yardstick for other unlikely milestones. In this instance, the official presidential account has applied that familiar gaming reference to a real vehicle demonstration, with the accompanying artwork reinforcing the connection.
Rockstar itself acknowledged the wait in its November 2025 delay announcement. The studio said the additional months before the November 2026 release would let it finish the game to the expected level of polish.
There is a separate irony in a political account borrowing the series’ imagery. We previously reported on Rockstar’s approach to keeping political satire in GTA VI while avoiding direct references to specific real-world figures and events. The White House’s illustration is its own take on GTA’s style; it does not establish that Trump or Tesla’s Roadster appears in the game.
