Key Notes
- NasNakarus demonstrated a joke challenge that replaces hay with imitation game cases, responding to what the developer describes as repeated copying.
- Studio Bitdot’s original remains scheduled for Q4 2026, while a separate similarly named game already lists a September release on Steam.
- The demonstration is not a confirmed feature for the finished game, whose core design combines a needle search with upgrades and optional online co-op.
Needle in a Haystack Simulator creator NasNakarus has turned complaints about copycats into a new search challenge: finding the original game in a mountain of imitation game cases. The developer shared the joke demonstration on October 27, while the actual haystack-hunting simulator remains unreleased.
The clip replaces the familiar pile of straw with boxes labelled as clones, making the game’s deliberately literal premise a comment on its own crowded corner of Steam. NasNakarus presented it as a response to how often the project has been copied. Whether the gag will become a feature in the finished release is still unclear.

A Haystack Made From Game Cases
Called Find the Original Game, the demonstration keeps the basic visual joke of searching through an oversized pile. This time, the surrounding objects advertise their status with conspicuous red clone labels, turning a difficult search into an intentionally obvious punchline.
The developer’s response is playful rather than a detailed breakdown of particular competitors. The post does not name individual studios, present a count of copied projects or announce action against them. It shows how the idea of searching for one elusive object can also describe finding the intended game in a set of similar listings.
That distinction helps explain the clip without treating it as a conventional update announcement. It is a public demonstration of a gag, not a release date, patch note or promise that buyers will receive an additional mode.
Similar Games Have Already Reached Steam
The timing gives the joke an extra edge. The original listing still identifies Studio Bitdot as developer, Polden Publishing as publisher and Q4 2026 as the planned release window. It currently offers no exact launch day.
Meanwhile, a separate game called Needle In A Haystack, developed and published by NoGlyph, lists a September 29 release on its Steam page. That establishes that a similarly named game reached sale before Studio Bitdot’s project; it does not establish how either game’s code or assets were made.
For players following the viral simulator, the developer and publisher fields provide a more reliable way to identify it than the title alone. The joke relies on an easily recognizable premise, but the actual store pages distinguish separate products, teams and release schedules.
The Original Builds a Search Into a Progression Loop
Studio Bitdot’s game asks players to locate one needle among five million pieces of hay. The search also uncovers valuables that can be sold to fund more effective tools, expanding the amount of material players can move and process.
The design supports working with friends through online co-op, while leaving room for a deliberately slower approach without equipment or automation. The Steam listing includes single-player support and Windows system requirements, with the full game still marked as upcoming.
We recently covered New Blood’s argument that a clear pitch helps players understand a game. NasNakarus faces a different version of that challenge: the premise is immediately understandable, but recognizing which listing belongs to its creator now requires another kind of search.
