Key Notes

  • A November 2 preview shows early gamepad controls with ability modifiers and a ping menu, while the feature remains in development.
  • Forever launches globally on November 4 at 23:00 UTC, which is midnight on November 5 in Central Europe, with an active subscription or game time required.
  • The preview concerns the PC game on Windows hardware, including an unofficially supported ROG Xbox Ally setup, and does not announce an Xbox console release.

World of Warcraft: Forever’s controller options have received a closer look ahead of the game’s November 4 launch. A new Xbox Wire preview shows Blizzard’s PC MMO running with gamepad controls that remain in development.

The November 2 preview covers a living-room PC and an ASUS ROG Xbox Ally. These are Windows setups, not an announcement of an Xbox console release.

Gamepad Controls Change How Abilities Are Reached

The setting changes prompts to gamepad buttons. Triggers and bumpers modify abilities on the face buttons, with a compact action bar and interface editor helping organize the layout.

Holding the right stick opens a ping menu with Attack, Warning, On My Way and Assist commands, offering communication beyond text chat.

Xbox Wire notes that the Ally is not officially supported and setup can require touch input. We have not tested the game’s handheld performance.

The Global Launch Falls on November 5 in Europe

Blizzard’s official launch schedule sets the opening for November 4 at 23:00 UTC. That is 3 pm Pacific in the United States and midnight on November 5 in Central Europe, including Poland. The different calendar dates describe the same global launch.

Forever is a permanent World of Warcraft branch alongside the modern game and Classic. Its initial journey runs from level 1 to 60 through a reworked version of the original Azeroth, with more than 1,000 quests and additional areas across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

The announced regions include Mount Hyjal, Shen’dralas, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle. They give the release more scope than a controller update alone: the input changes accompany a different version of the world and its progression.

Access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time. It is not a free-to-play release for anyone with a Battle.net account, and optional paid upgrades should be distinguished from the subscription access needed to enter the base game.

PC Players Still Need to Plan Their Setup

Blizzard’s starter guide lists Windows and Mac and directs players to select Forever in the Battle.net launcher. It describes controller support as being in beta, while the preview’s Gamepad setting is labeled Alpha; both point to a feature that is still being developed.

The guide also offers Classic and Enhanced interface presets, with differences in presentation and conveniences that can be adjusted later. Players choosing a realm should coordinate its ruleset and their faction with friends, because that choice affects grouping, guilds and raiding.

Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP realms are planned for launch. Hardcore is a later addition, so players looking for that ruleset should not assume it will be available on opening night.

We explained how cloud gaming runs a game on remote hardware and streams it to a screen. The controller preview here concerns the PC game running on Windows devices. Anyone planning a couch or handheld setup should check its local requirements and input needs rather than assume cloud access or console compatibility.
