Key Notes

  • Microsoft’s Xbox Nano Controller costs $49.99 in the US and begins availability in November, with pre-orders open and regional pricing varying.
  • The smaller controller retains 18 standard gameplay inputs and adds an internal rechargeable battery and programmable Action Button.
  • Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth connect it to supported consoles, Windows PCs, mobile devices and smart TVs, while charging requires a separate USB-C cable.

Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a smaller wireless gamepad priced at $49.99 in the United States. Pre-orders opened on October 14, with availability beginning in November across an initial group of markets including the US, UK and Poland.

The company is positioning Nano for smaller hands and portable play. It measures a little over five inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces, while retaining the 18 standard gameplay inputs of the familiar Xbox layout.

A Smaller Controller With Rechargeable Power

The most immediately useful change beyond size is an internal rechargeable battery. Microsoft’s product page specifies USB-C charging and says the cable is sold separately. Buyers should factor that into the package contents rather than assume a charging lead is included.

Nano also includes a programmable Action Button. Microsoft gives screenshots, gameplay capture and other shortcuts as examples of functions that can be assigned to it. The extra control is separate from the standard gameplay inputs retained in the smaller design.

Its compact dimensions create a different fit from a full-size controller. That may suit younger players or people who prefer smaller grips, but the announcement alone cannot establish comfort for every hand size. This is a product reveal, not a conclusion from our own hands-on testing.

Console, PC and Mobile Connections

Microsoft lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One compatibility alongside Windows, Android and iOS. The controller uses Xbox Wireless for console connections and Bluetooth for supported PCs, tablets, phones and smart TVs.

That range makes the same controller useful across more than one screen, provided the device and game support its inputs. A Bluetooth connection does not itself provide access to a game library, a streaming subscription or an internet connection.

For cloud gaming, those distinctions affect the real cost. Someone who already owns the necessary device and subscription may only need a controller; another buyer may need additional services. Nano’s $49.99 price covers the accessory rather than the entire route into streamed games.

We previously covered Microsoft’s renewed console investment and plans for a wider family of Xbox devices. Nano addresses the input side of that ecosystem: a more portable gamepad can move between existing consoles and other supported screens without being a new gaming system itself.

November Availability and Holiday Offers

The Xbox announcement names November as the start of availability, with prices and timing varying by country. The $49.99 figure is the announced US price and should not be treated as a converted price for every other market.

Microsoft also describes US holiday promotions with Samsung and Meta. Selected Samsung TV purchases and a Meta Quest offer are set to include a Nano Controller and two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new members. Those are conditional bundles, rather than benefits automatically included with every controller purchase.

Players considering Nano should therefore separate three decisions: whether the smaller shape suits them, whether their intended device supports the connection and whether a local offer changes the price. The product page supplies compatibility and package details; the announcement does not establish battery endurance or long-term durability through independent testing.
