Level Design

Level design turns game rules into places and sequences a player can navigate. Designers arrange terrain, rooms, obstacles, enemies, resources, checkpoints, objectives, and sightlines to guide movement and create pacing. They may begin with blockouts made from simple geometry, test routes and metrics, then work with art, audio, narrative, and engineering teams to finish the space. The discipline is related to environment art but not identical: visual artists establish appearance, while level designers concentrate on how the space plays, communicates choices, and supports the game’s systems.
