Key Notes

  • The free Edgerunners 2 Update is scheduled for October 22, with dual wielding and cyberware customization confirmed.
  • CD PROJEKT RED will demonstrate the patch on October 21 at 15:00 UTC through its REDstreams broadcast.
  • The short announcement leaves detailed equipment rules and platform rollout information for further disclosure.

Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a free Update 2.5 on October 22, with dual wielding and cyberware customization among its announced features. CD PROJEKT RED is calling the release the Edgerunners 2 Update and will demonstrate it in a REDstreams broadcast one day earlier.

The studio’s announcement sets the presentation for October 21 at 5pm CEST, or 15:00 UTC. The update itself follows on Thursday, giving returning players two separate dates to watch: the gameplay reveal and the download.

Dual Wielding Is Confirmed, but the Build Details Await

CD PROJEKT RED describes dual wielding as a new playstyle. It has not yet explained the full equipment rules or character progression involved in the official announcement, so particular weapon combinations and skill requirements remain questions for the demonstration.

The first Edgerunners Update, released in September 2022 as Patch 1.6, paired anime-inspired equipment and secrets with broader features. Its Wardrobe system allowed players to change clothing appearance while retaining armor statistics, and the patch also introduced three gigs and cross-platform progression.

Cyberware customization is the other named addition. The preview does not provide an item-by-item breakdown, and the phrase alone is not enough to establish new implant statistics, a reworked progression system or particular cosmetic slots.

Another Update Builds on Night City’s Earlier Changes

There is precedent for free updates changing more than technical performance. The earlier Update 2.3 introduced AutoDrive, on-demand Delamain taxis, four vehicles and additional Photo Mode options. Its patch notes also covered expanded vehicle paint support and platform-specific graphics features.

Those were distinct additions to driving, customization and taking screenshots. They provide useful context for 2.5: an existing player can have a reason to return without the studio announcing a new expansion. The exact scale of this update still depends on what the full presentation and patch notes reveal.

We previously reported on renewed interest in The Witcher 3 after its remaster. Cyberpunk’s patch is a separate release with a different scope, so that audience response should not be treated as a forecast of how many players will return to Night City.

When and Where to Watch REDstreams

The official YouTube broadcast is scheduled for October 21; CD PROJEKT RED will also stream on Twitch and Steam. The announced start is 17:00 in Warsaw and 16:00 in London.

A complete platform rollout, download sizes and detailed balance changes are not specified in this short preview. The existing game’s availability on a platform should not be taken as confirmation that every version receives the patch on the same day.

Players planning a new build therefore have a reason to watch Wednesday’s demonstration before committing to particular equipment choices. It should show how the two headline features fit into the game; hands-on performance and the practical effect on existing saves will need to be assessed once the update is available.
