Square Enix has launched The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, a new HD-2D action RPG with clear Zelda-style influences. The game arrives on Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC as one of the week’s more distinctive releases.
The adventure follows Elliot across a time-spanning fantasy world, blending top-down exploration, real-time combat, dungeons, and puzzle-solving. Square Enix is using the HD-2D look outside its usual turn-based comfort zone, which makes the release notable for both presentation and genre experimentation.
Early coverage has pointed to the game’s approachable structure, warm tone, and familiar adventure pacing. It is not being positioned as a radical reinvention, but as a polished action RPG built around comfort, accessibility, and strong moment-to-moment exploration.
For players looking beyond shooters and live-service headlines, The Adventures of Elliot gives the week a more traditional RPG highlight. Its multi-platform launch also gives Square Enix a chance to test how far the HD-2D label can stretch beyond nostalgic turn-based systems.
