Key Notes
- Capcom has confirmed more than 20 million Monster Hunter Rise sales worldwide, with the total covering releases on Switch, PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
- The milestone is roughly 700,000 copies above the 19.3 million reported for June 30, indicating continued sales more than five years after launch.
- The figure counts copies sold rather than the entire player audience, while Sunbreak expansion sales are reported separately by Capcom.
Monster Hunter Rise has surpassed 20 million copies sold worldwide, reaching another milestone more than five years after its Nintendo Switch debut. Capcom confirmed the total through the game’s official Japanese account on October 6, thanking hunters for their support.
The announcement puts the action RPG roughly 700,000 copies ahead of the 19.3 million sales Capcom reported at the end of June. Rise has continued finding buyers across Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation and Xbox, with its lifetime total covering the game’s releases across those platforms.
About 700,000 More Copies Since June
Capcom’s sales table lists Monster Hunter Rise at 19.3 million units as of June 30, 2026. Comparing that figure with the newly announced milestone indicates about 700,000 additional copies over a little more than three months, equivalent to approximately 3.6% growth from the earlier total.
The new announcement does not provide a platform breakdown or separate physical and digital purchases. It therefore cannot show which storefront contributed most to the increase, or how many buyers picked up the game on more than one system.
Capcom also used the milestone announcement to point prospective players toward sales running on digital stores. Discounts provide another entry point for a game with an established catalog of content, although the company has not attributed the latest sales increase to any particular promotion.
A Switch Debut That Expanded Across Platforms
Rise originally launched on Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021. Its Steam version followed on January 12, 2022, while PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S editions arrived on January 20, 2023. That rollout expanded the game’s potential audience well beyond its original Nintendo release.
The action RPG centers on hunts in which players defeat monsters, collect materials and craft weapons and armor for tougher encounters. It supports solo play and online groups of up to four hunters, with 14 weapon types offering different approaches to combat.
Rise’s defining additions include the Wirebug, which lets hunters move vertically through environments and perform special attacks, and the rideable Palamute companion. Those systems give its combat and traversal a distinct identity, while Kamura Village and monsters such as Magnamalo anchor the adventure.
For players considering a purchase, the base game and Sunbreak expansion are separate products, although bundles are also available. Sunbreak adds further hunting content, but its sales are reported separately: Capcom’s June 30 table put the expansion at 11.9 million units. The newly announced 20 million milestone concerns Rise itself.
Sales and Player Reach Tell Different Stories
Rise has also reached players through subscriptions. It joined Game Pass alongside its Xbox and Windows launch in January 2023, and entered the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog in June 2024. Those historical appearances helped make the game accessible without a separate purchase.
Capcom has not supplied a total player count with this announcement. Copies sold, subscription users and unique players measure different things, so the 20 million figure should not be treated as a count of everyone who has played Rise or its current active audience.
The milestone adds to the recent evidence of demand for established games. We also covered The Witcher 3 finding new buyers around its remaster launch; Rise’s update offers another view of how a game released years earlier can continue adding meaningful sales.
