Key Notes
- Alinea estimates FC 27 has generated more than $714 million from nearly eight million copies on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, with EA yet to announce those results.
- PlayStation accounts for more than three-quarters of estimated copies, while the tracked total excludes Nintendo and other PC storefronts.
- Roughly half the estimated copies sold before the standard release, and Alinea reports revenue growth despite broadly flat launch-aligned unit sales.
EA Sports FC 27 has become the highest-grossing premium game released in 2026 across PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, according to Alinea Analytics. The research firm estimates that Electronic Arts’ football simulator has sold 7.9 million copies and generated $714.1 million in gross revenue from game sales across those platforms.
The October 6 analysis by Rhys Elliott puts FC 27 ahead of Resident Evil Requiem in the firm’s revenue ranking. These are third-party estimates, rather than sales results announced by EA, and the platform coverage matters: the figures do not represent every storefront where the game is available.
The reported revenue comes from copies sold. It should not be read as profit, EA’s recognized net revenue or a total that includes subsequent spending on FC Points and other in-game purchases.
PlayStation Accounts for Most Sales
PlayStation represents 77.1% of the estimated copies sold, followed by Xbox at 15.9% and Steam at 7.0%. The revenue split is different from the unit split, so the two measures should not be used interchangeably.
| Platform | Share of Copies | Gross Revenue |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation | 77.1% | $573.9 million |
| Xbox | 15.9% | $106.0 million |
| Steam | 7.0% | $34.2 million |
The table covers the platforms in Alinea’s estimate. Nintendo versions and PC purchases through other storefronts, including the EA App, sit outside this three-platform total. Steam’s share therefore describes Steam purchases, rather than the entire PC market.
EA’s launch announcement lists FC 27 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game’s actual distribution is wider than the dataset used for the headline revenue comparison.
Premium Editions Front-Loaded the Launch
Alinea estimates that 4 million copies, generating approximately $400 million, were sold before the September 25 standard release. That puts roughly half the measured purchases in the period before all editions became playable.
EA’s edition guide confirms that Ultimate and Ultimate Plus buyers could start on September 18, up to seven days early. Ultimate Plus was offered through a limited preorder window, while the Ultimate Edition remained available after that window closed.
The launch calendar therefore has two relevant starting points. Treating September 25 as the first day anyone could play would omit the premium editions’ earlier access. EA’s launch schedule also explains why Steam lists September 24: the worldwide PC unlock was at 23:00 UTC that day, ahead of the September 25 local-midnight console rollout.
The estimated performance is stronger in revenue than in audience expansion. Alinea reports launch-aligned revenue growth of 14% over FC 26 across its three tracked platforms, while copies sold were roughly flat. A larger dollar total can therefore coexist with a similar number of purchases.
A Sales Milestone, With a Defined Scope
FC 27 introduces The Grounds, a social football space with street matches and connections to Clubs, alongside changes to Career Mode, Football Ultimate Team and on-pitch gameplay. EA specifies that The Grounds is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Switch 2, rather than every platform carrying FC 27.
The Steam listing identifies optional in-game purchases separately from the base game. That distinction matters when assessing an annual sports release: initial purchases establish one revenue stream, while later spending and continued engagement describe different parts of the business.
We recently covered Alinea’s estimates of The Witcher 3’s daily-player rebound. FC 27’s headline figures measure copies and revenue, so they should not be compared directly with daily active users. The current result is a substantial estimated launch-sales lead within a clearly defined set of platforms.
