Speedrun

Speedrunning treats completion time as a competitive challenge. Communities create categories that define the route and rules, such as any%, which allows any amount of completion, or 100%, which requires specified objectives. Some categories permit glitches; glitchless rules exclude particular exploits rather than every unintended behavior. Runs may use in-game time or real time and are verified through video, timing tools, and community review. Routing, execution, luck management, hardware, and game version all matter. Tool-assisted speedruns use emulators or frame-level tools to demonstrate theoretically optimized play and are ranked separately.
