Free-to-Play

A free-to-play game can be downloaded and started without buying the base software. Revenue may come from cosmetics, battle passes, characters, convenience items, subscriptions, advertising, or randomized purchases. The label describes entry price, not the total possible cost or whether all content is immediately available. Well-balanced models keep a complete experience accessible to non-paying players; more aggressive designs can tie power or progress to spending. Free-to-play also differs from a temporary free weekend, a demo, or a premium game claimed through a subscription.
